Paco Rabanne, a Spaniard who marked the world of fashion

Paco Rabanne was born in February 1934 in Spain. His mother was already working at Balenciaga as a first hand while his father was a colonel in the Republican forces. He was shot by Franco’s troops during the civil war of 1939, which led Paco Rabanne’s family to flee Spain. This is how the latter arrived in France. He then turned to architectural studies at the National School of Fine Arts in Paris. Also, to finance the latter, he drew his first fashion sketches. In 1959 he published a series of seven very clean and geometric dresses under the name Frank Rabanne in the Women’s Wear Daily. This began to establish his notoriety. Likewise, in 1963, Paco Rabanne was laureate of the Paris Biennale with a sculpture for gardens exhibited at the Museum of Modern Art. At the end of his studies, he embarked on the artisanal manufacture of fancy accessories for the biggest fashion houses. It was then that the Paco Rabanne signature made its first appearance. A first collection in his name followed, in February 1966, called Manifesto. From 1967 to 1970, Paco Rabanne experienced a period rich in experimentation. He did not hesitate to incorporate all kinds of materials into his fashion designs, showing off paper dresses, fluorescent leather models or hammered metal clothes. This is how Paco Rabanne began to revolutionize the world of fashion to never shy away from this characteristic audacity.

The launch of Paco Rabanne in perfumery

Paco Rabanne signed a partnership with the Puig company, in 1969. He then launched his very first fragrance called Calandre, a daring juice integrated into a bottle with an unexpected design. This had some success. Then, four years later, in 1973, Paco Rabanne launched his first male juice, soberly named Paco Rabanne for men. Since then, Paco Rabanne has continued to have a series of olfactory successes. While at the same time he continued his incredible destiny as a fashion designer, even pushing him to develop all of Mylène Farmer’s stage costumes for his 1996 tour, he was nonetheless very productive in terms of perfumery. In addition, Paco Rabanne has been enjoying creating couples of perfumes for more than 10 years, taking us into a universe that is still very marked. As such, the duo Black XS wanted to be very rock ‘n’ roll. It was followed by 1 Million and Lady Million, two icons of perfumery. Finally, more recently, Paco Rabanne also signed the appearance of two athletic deities straight out of Greek mythology: Invictus and Olympéa.
